Progreso

Progreso is known by its pier, with 6,5 m length the longest in the world. As a result, the port became a high seas port, which, in addition to container ships, is also used by huge cruise ships. It also alters ocean currents so that land is washed away from one side of the pier and deposited on the other side

I go to Progreso when I’m in Merida and in the mood for a beach walk or to have lunch with friends at the seaside. Half an hour by bus, a little less by car and one can breathe sea air and see as fare as the horizon

the beaches of Progreso aren’t my favorite ones, neither the flagship beach with all it’s restaurants and shops, nor the beach part which is left to itself. For a walk I prefer to cross below the pier, where I get after passing funny sculptures to the neglected but quiet strech of beach

nevertheless, as photographer I search for beauty wherever I go

but as it is when one lives in this world with eyes wide open, the ugly does not remain hidden

I envied this seagull

in between

pieces of plastic floating in the water
